About the PCHA 100 Hour Course


The Personal Care Home Administrator 100 Hour Course offered by Temple University Harrisburg is an initial training course required by the Department of Human Services or DHS for those individuals who would like to become Personal Care Home Administrators.

Prior to initial employment as an administrator a candidate must successfully complete the following:

  1. An orientation program approved and administered by the Department of Human Services. (It is helpful to attend this orientation prior to or during the course).

  2. Attend all 100 hours of the standardized department-approved administrator training course.

  3. Obtain a passing score on the department-approved competency based training exam.

Modules covered in the 100 Hour course:

  • Nutrition, Food Handling, and Sanitation

  • Resident Rights and Resident Home Contracts

  • Budgeting, Financial Record-keeping, Resident Records

  • Gerontology

  • CPR and First Aid - with certification

  • Fire Prevention & Emergency Preparedness

  • Care of Residents with Mental Illness

  • Recreation

  • Cultural Competency

  • Staff Supervision and Staff Person Training

  • Community Resources, Social Services, and Activities in the Community

  • Care for Residents with Developmental Disabilities

  • Writing, Completing and Implementing Initial Assessments and Support Plans

  • Personal Care/Personal Hygiene

  • Medication Procedures, Medication Effects, and Side Effects and Standard Precautions

  • Neurocognitive Disorder

  • Abuse and Neglect Prevention
