Community Health Training Program

About

Optimal health, particularly for vulnerable populations, is dependent on comprehensive care, comprised of various types and levels of medical and social service expertise.  Community Health Workers (CHWs), or para-professionals who are cross-trained to support medical and social service professionals, are sometimes part of a comprehensive strategy, as they fulfill an essential support role.  It is also equally important that each professional of a care team is appropriately cross-trained to holistically address and effectively help the patient/client.  Trusted medical professionals can have an enormous impact on health behavior change when medical intervention and treatment appropriately consider patients’ social determinants of health.  Likewise, social service professionals have incredible potential to support their clients’ health.  These professionals have unique, comprehensive insight into individuals’ social determinants of health as they work to empower individuals and families to build on their strengths to overcome challenges and achieve their life goals.

Temple University Harrisburg provides top-quality community health training that supports all members of a care team – whether their expertise lies in community health work, human/aging services, health education/prevention, health program administration, nursing, and/or clinical case management.  Temple University Harrisburg’s training in community health and health counseling facilitates professionals’ understanding of essential concepts that enable them to apply strengths-based best practices.
